About Helen Abadzi
Helen Abadzi, Education Specialist

Helen Abadzi is a Greek psychologist, who has worked for 24 years as an education specialist and senior evaluation officer in the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education. While evaluating the Bank's completed programs, she found out that low-income students frequently could not read. She then researched the learning research to find explanations, measurement methods, and promising avenues for improvements. The insights led in 2005 to a worldwide awakening to the importance of reading fluency. Helen, who has studied 20 languages in order to understand reading issues, still regularly monitors the cognitive neuroscience research. She has written many books and articles on relevant topics, notably "Efficient Learning for the Poor", "Absenteeism and Beyond", and others.
