Interview with HRH Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands about Children’s Literacy

HRH Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands

In March 2012, HRH Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, UNESCO Special Envoy on Literacy for Development joined the Global Partnership for Education-sponsored All Children Reading Workshops in Kigali, Rwanda.

She sat down for an interview with GPE Staff and shared her views on children’s literacy, the importance of the workshops for implementing reading programs in Africa, and future actions needed to give every child a chance to read.

The Princess’ participation in this workshop reflects her outstanding commitment to the promotion of literacy, especially early reading. “Literacy goes to the heart of somebody’s existence and it’s about having a chance in life. Everybody deserves to have that chance” she said.
